Fujitsu and Mitsubishi Heat pumps generally consist of two units, one outside and one inside your home, connected together with copper pipework. The outdoor unit absorbs warmth from the surrounding air and transfers it into your home. They use the same technology as a refrigerator which makes them very efficient.
A heat pump that uses 1kw of electricity can create 4kw of heat.
Generally an electric heater is 1kw in and 1kw out. Unflued gas heaters are 1kw of energy in and 0.6kw heat out. The added benefit of a heat pump is its reverse cycle so you can enjoy a cool dry home in the summer.
Costs to run – A typical installation of a 6kw output unit, running 6 hours a day for 6 months of a year would cost around $300 in electricity. This will vary depending on the house.
